Great wines are made in Ihringen because vines thrive in Germany’s warmest spot. Currently, Ihringen’s main variety is Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), followed by the traditional white grape variety, Silvaner. This fruity white variety does well in the Kaiserstuhl’s Mediterranean climate and has carried the name of this winemaking village far beyond national boundaries. On a total of approximately 384 hectares of vineyards the following are predominantly grown: Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), Müller-Thurgau, Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris), Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc), Gewürztraminer, Muskateller (Muscat) and Scheurebe. The volcanic sediment and fertile soils of the Ihringer Winklerberg and Fohrenberg provide an ideal basis our light and fruity wines as well as for our rich, full bodied pinots, merlot and dessert wines.
